HPC Network Engineer

Location: Austin, Chicago, New York, United States; London, United Kingdom; or Singapore

Salary: $200,000–$300,000 USD per year, plus discretionary performance-based bonuses and benefits

What you will do

• Design, select, configure, deploy, troubleshoot, and optimize high-performance LAN and WAN networks for large-scale HPC environments.
• Architect low-latency communications infrastructure connecting globally distributed on-premises data centers and GPU/CPU clusters.
• Plan data center network capacity and scale research infrastructure in collaboration with HPC Systems and other technical teams.
• Develop scripts and operational processes to improve network management efficiency and support zero-touch operations.
• Collaborate across disciplines, work with external vendors, and provide detailed technical documentation.
• Mentor engineers and contribute both to technical implementation and broader network management.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant network engineering experience.
• Deep understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols and architectures, including OSPF, BGP, PIM, IGMP, RoCEv2, spine-leaf, and VXLAN.
• Experience managing Arista EOS, Cisco NX-OS, Nvidia Cumulus, and SONiC-based switches.
• Strong skills in computing and grid network design, capacity planning, full-lifecycle project management, and vendor selection.
• Experience with packet analysis tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark, public cloud networks, Unix/Linux networking utilities, and networking stacks.
• Knowledge of fiber optics and cabling standards from 1 to 800 Gbps, including evaluating specifications and recommending purchases.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ansible or Salt for configuration management.
• Familiarity with Python, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and GitHub.
• Understanding of data center power consumption and cooling considerations.
• Experience with AI-style network designs and workloads.
