Software Engineer III - Cloud Data Platform

Location: United States - San Mateo, CA; hybrid work environment in San Mateo. New hires participate in an in-person orientation process.

US base salary: $132,000–$228,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, education, training, and location. Some roles may also include annual bonuses, commissions, or long-term incentive awards.

What you will do

• Architect, design, and implement high-performance, cloud-native data platform and analytics SaaS services processing billions of real-time data points.
• Develop large-scale distributed systems using Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, Flink, Hive, Java, and Scala.
• Design and build real-time stream-processing systems and microservices with strong scalability, reliability, and data security.
• Own and resolve complex code defects while championing software development and system design best practices.
• Collaborate cross-functionally on AI, cloud, and data platform adoption, supporting agile delivery and measurable customer value.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship while contributing to operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering roles focused on data platforms or data engineering.
• Deep expertise in Java and proficiency designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems principles, including consistency, availability, durability, reliability, fault tolerance, and consensus algorithms.
• Advanced knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, Docker, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience designing and developing microservices and API-driven systems.
• Ability to embrace AI in the current role and apply data-driven insights to innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.
• Excellent technical communication and mentoring skills.
• Eagerness to learn new technologies and passion for innovation.

Nice to have

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience building cloud-based data platforms with Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, Flink, and Hive.
• Familiarity with ELK, Debezium, and building SaaS or PaaS on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with TeamCity-based CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience developing in multiple programming languages and frameworks.
