QNX Principal Systems Software Developer (Embedded)

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Salary: $131,250–$181,250 base annually, plus eligibility for the hirify.global Variable Incentive Pay program

What you will do

• Design, develop, and enhance kernel and core operating system technologies.
• Provide technical leadership for QNX Kernel and Core OS research and development initiatives.
• Influence operating system architecture, design, performance, reliability, security, and scalability.
• Write specifications, designs, and high-quality code for critical OS subsystems.
• Collaborate through design and code reviews and develop automated unit tests.
• Diagnose complex system-level issues across hardware and software layers and help plan development efforts.

Requirements

• Strong expertise in C programming, especially for resource-constrained and embedded environments.
• Deep knowledge of operating system fundamentals, including processes and threads, memory management, system calls, IPC, scheduling, concurrency, and resource management.
• Experience with POSIX-based operating systems and understanding of multicore, multithreaded, and real-time architectures.
• Exceptional debugging, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the engineering team.

Nice to have

• QNX system-level development experience, including resource managers, system services, or development tools.
• Performance tuning, memory analysis, profiling, and post-mortem debugging experience.
• Experience with Git, SVN, GNU toolchains, ARM or x86 architectures, Assembly, and register-level hardware interaction.
• Knowledge of embedded and real-time operating systems, compiler technologies, optimization, and software architecture.
