Staff Embedded Logging Software Developer (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid in Markham or Oshawa, Ontario; expected to report to the office at least three days per week.

Salary: $147,000–$196,600 per year.

What you will do

• Design and implement embedded platform logging clients across Android, Linux, and QNX.
• Manage volatile buffers, persistent log files, packages, rotation, compression, retention, and storage quotas.
• Build control-plane integrations for configuration retrieval, validation, arbitration, persistence, fallback, and runtime logging controls.
• Design reliable data-plane paths for log streaming and file-based transfer of binary logs, crash dumps, and multi-file packages.
• Define startup sequencing and CPU, memory, and flash resource budgets to protect real-time and safety-critical workloads.
• Establish structured logging standards, documentation, operational runbooks, and end-to-end ECU-to-cloud collaboration across engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of embedded software development or systems engineering experience across Android, Linux, and/or QNX.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Android Java with platform-level integration experience.
• Experience with control-plane services, streaming and file-based data pipelines, file management, logger ecosystems, and storage at scale.
• Deep understanding of ECU startup sequencing, CPU/memory/flash constraints, contention mitigation, metrics, telemetry, and fleet-scale remote control.
• Immigration-related sponsorship is not provided; candidates must not require GM sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Experience with driver- or HMI-initiated log capture and package upload flows.
• Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity and data-protection controls.
• Exposure to OpenTelemetry, protobuf, gRPC, or similar observability technologies.
• Automotive experience with ECU architectures, SoC platforms, diagnostics, and crash analysis.
