Senior Software Development Engineer - US Federal (Observability)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; employees may be required to work on site at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area, with at least 50% of time each quarter in the office or field.

Salary: $163,800–$245,800 USD annual base pay for the primary location. Additional U.S. locations: $148,200–$264,000 USD.

What you will do

• Design, build, and enhance observability services for monitoring, logging, alerting, and tracing.
• Develop data capture, collection, ingestion, and processing services across Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare-metal, and other infrastructure environments.
• Build metrics ingestion pipelines, alert definitions, and automation for dashboard lifecycle management.
• Deploy and optimize infrastructure components in production and air-gapped U.S. AWS cloud regions.
• Improve data quality, integrity, availability, and the reliability of large-scale distributed systems.
• Participate in on-call support and partner with Federal Cyber Defense on cybersecurity, governance, risk, compliance, and platform security.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience building high-performance data ingestion software, including work with concurrency, latency, and efficiency challenges.
• Strong software engineering and coding skills in Java and Python; Go is a plus.
• Experience with high-performance data capture and collection systems, API design, reliable data delivery, time-series databases, and log management.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, Linux, and infrastructure automation with Ansible, Chef, or Terraform.
• U.S. citizenship is required for personnel working on U.S. Federal Government contracts; the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance is required, with TS/SCI with CI Poly preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Grafana, InfluxData, PromQL, and InfluxQL.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Helm.
• DoD 8570/8140 compliance and IAT Level II certification with a current Computing Environment credential and an approved specialty certification.
