Senior Backend Engineer (IoT)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; onsite five days per week

Annual pay range: $190,000–$275,000 USD

What you will do

• Architect and deliver major backend platform features for device provisioning, OTA firmware rollout, device metrics, and licensing.
• Scale the IoT platform from millions of deployed devices to the next order of magnitude.
• Improve system robustness, reduce pager noise, and drive incident learning.
• Lead design reviews, code reviews, written communication, and mentorship.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to shape the shared platform roadmap.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building backend services at scale with consistency, latency, and uptime guarantees.
• Fluency in at least one server-side language; Python or Go preferred, with Ruby or Node.js also considered.
• Experience shaping technical direction with other engineering teams and delivering dependable shared services.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for FedRAMP compliance.
• Onsite presence five days per week is required.
