Principal Software Engineer – Developer Platform (Auth0)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work arrangement

Annual salary: CAD 184,000–253,000, plus equity where applicable, bonus, and benefits.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction and own the architecture of the Auth0 Developer Platform.
• Design distributed and event-driven systems for throughput, reliability, consistency, and scale.
• Turn ambiguous, cross-cutting platform problems into clear and modular technical designs.
• Design developer-facing interfaces and abstractions that support both people and AI agents.
• Raise engineering standards through architecture reviews, technical guidance, and mentorship.
• Partner with technical leads across engineering teams to align major platform decisions.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience and a proven Principal- or Staff-level individual contributor track record.
• Extensive experience designing and operating high-scale, reliable backend and event-driven systems.
• Experience building platforms or developer-facing systems at scale, including strong IAM platform knowledge.
• Ability to own vaguely specified problems and drive them to clear technical direction.
• Strong Node fundamentals; Go experience is a plus.
• Hands-on familiarity with agentic tooling, MCP, or LLM-facing design, plus cross-functional collaboration experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with agent frameworks, AI-facing systems, or LLM developer toolchains.
• Background at a company where developers are the primary customers.
• Experience setting technical direction for platforms used by other engineering teams.
