Principal AI Engineer (AI)

Salary: $264,000–$379,500 per year

What you will do

• Define the technical strategy and long-term architecture for Snowflake Intelligence.
• Design multi-agent systems, tool-use frameworks, and self-correcting natural-language-to-SQL engines.
• Build automated evaluation and reliability infrastructure for LLM applications across diverse customer schemas.
• Develop context engineering patterns, advanced function calling, and semantic-layer integrations for internal teams and external developers.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Research, and Infrastructure leadership to bring AI capabilities to production at enterprise scale.
• Mentor Staff and Senior engineers and lead cross-functional strike teams on high-impact AI projects.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading deployment of LLM-based applications at massive scale.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, AI, or a related field.
• Deep expertise in LLM orchestration, prompt optimization, semantic modeling, and guardrails for non-deterministic systems.
• Experience designing systems that integrate AI with SQL, retrieval systems, and semantic layers.
• Exceptional communication skills across executive leadership and individual contributor audiences.
• Previous Principal-level experience or a major AI product launch used by millions.
