Assistant General Counsel (Adtech)

Location: Chicago, IL or New York, NY; hybrid schedule with 4 days in-office and 1 day remote

What you will do

• Negotiate and close commercial agreements for the adtech business, including data licenses, MSAs, DPAs, SOWs, and order forms.
• Advise product, engineering, and growth teams on new features, data flows, and business decisions.
• Build the data privacy program, including data inventories, consent and opt-out reviews, vendor diligence, and consumer data request processes.
• Support the expansion of the consumer fintech business alongside specialist consumer regulatory counsel.
• Build AI-enabled legal operations, including intake, negotiation playbooks, self-service templates, contract review, matter management, reporting, and company policies.
• Manage outside counsel and support company-wide legal matters involving employment, IP, corporate work, financings, insurance, and state licensing.

Requirements

• JD and active bar membership in good standing.
• Approximately 7+ years of post-JD experience combining law firm training with in-house work.
• Deep data privacy experience, particularly in adtech, data licensing, or data-driven consumer businesses.
• Substantial high-volume commercial and sales contracting experience, including data licenses, MSAs, DPAs, SOWs, and order forms.
• Legal operations experience and practical fluency with AI-assisted contract review and workflow automation.
• Ability to work autonomously, identify material risk, communicate clearly, and escalate matters when appropriate.

Nice to have

• Consumer financial services or fintech experience, including earned wage access, buy-now-pay-later, or bank partnerships.
• Knowledge of TILA, Regulation Z, EFTA, Regulation E, FCRA, the Military Lending Act, TCPA, UDAAP, GLBA, and state licensing regimes.
• Experience managing litigation, arbitration, or regulatory matters.
