Senior Software Engineer (C++/Patching)

Location: Remote from home in the USA, limited to CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, and WA. Hybrid work is available through physical offices in Austin, Texas, and Tampa, Florida. Hiring is not available within the city limits of Chicago unless the candidate self-relocates outside the city proper.

Salary: $150,000–$240,000 per year for roles based in California, Colorado, Maryland, New Jersey, Washington, and New York.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain the C++ agent that detects, installs, validates, and rolls back patches on customer endpoints.
• Build cross-platform patching functionality for Windows, macOS, and Linux, including operating-system and third-party application updates.
• Work with system-level APIs and elevated privileges to create resilient installation and reboot workflows.
• Review code for correctness, maintainability, and architectural health.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and improve engineering processes.
• Coordinate with mainline, catalog, and other patching squads on ownership, integrations, roadmap priorities, and customer needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of C++ development experience, including Modern C++17 or later.
• Experience with cross-platform development for Windows, macOS, and Linux, including Win32 API and POSIX.
• Experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers.
• Experience with SQLite and embedded database patterns.
• Experience with CMake and the ability to work with large-scale, asynchronous client-server systems.

• Proficiency with Qt and Vcpkg.
