Senior Power BI Lead (Power BI)

Location: Hybrid; ideally based in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, or San Diego, USA

Salary: $170,000–$180,000 annual

What you will do

• Build and scale a centralized Power BI department within the AHI Data Strategy & BI team.
• Define the operating model, standards, intake, delivery, quality control, and support practices for the function.
• Set enterprise standards for Power BI reporting across three independently operated divisions.
• Deliver certified datasets, standardized metrics, governed reporting, and disciplined release management.
• Design complex reporting solutions with row-level security, cross-division datasets, and varied data maturity levels.
• Lead visible initiatives while remaining hands-on with architecture, development, troubleshooting, and quality review.

Requirements

• 10+ years of business intelligence, analytics, data platform, or reporting experience, including 5+ years with Power BI and 3+ years in a senior lead, architect, administrator, or BI platform ownership role.
• Required insurance industry experience, preferably in property and casualty, specialty insurance, MGA/MGU, wholesale brokerage, retail agency, carrier, or insurance distribution.
• Expert Power BI skills covering semantic modeling, DAX, Power Query, dataflows, deployment pipelines, workspace design, performance tuning, incremental refresh, composite models, report design, and tenant or capacity administration.
• Strong experience with Power BI governance, certification, data cataloging, stewardship, metric standardization, security, lifecycle management, production support, and adoption.
• Advanced SQL and data modeling experience, including dimensional modeling, relational databases, data warehouses, lakehouse patterns, curated datasets, and semantic layers.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, analytics, data science, business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, Synapse, SQL Server, Analysis Services, Purview, or related Microsoft data platforms.
• Experience with Tableau or other BI tools in tool rationalization or standardization initiatives.
• Experience with data governance, master data management, data quality, metadata management, data lineage, stewardship, or enterprise data strategy.
• Power BI, Fabric, Azure Data Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect, or related Microsoft certifications.
• Experience with Python, R, APIs, automation, DevOps, Git, or advanced analytics workflows.
