Base pay range: $82,000–$126,000 USD per year for California.

What you will do

  • Complete thermal modeling and analysis of spacecraft and other space vehicles.
  • Conduct thermal design trade studies balancing performance margins, resource use, risk, cost, and schedule.
  • Identify and resolve thermal design, acceptance, and performance issues in space vehicle components and assemblies.
  • Design and execute thermal tests and validate thermal models using test and in-flight data.
  • Collaborate with program, test, design, and engineering teams on thermal design and testing.
  • Research potential vendors of thermal control materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, or another engineering discipline.
  • Thermal engineering experience for the Engineer I level.
  • At least 2 years of thermal engineering experience in the aerospace industry for the Engineer II level.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements.
  • Ability to work for prolonged periods at a computer and in production areas with occasional moderate noise, dust, and fumes.

Nice to have

  • Master's or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Strong heat-transfer background and experience with thermal systems and passive thermal management.
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop, Siemens NX, Teamcenter, ANSYS, SINDA, THERMICA, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Experience planning and analyzing thermal balance tests, heat pipes, multilayer insulation, and 0-D or 1-D thermal/fluid networks.
  • Knowledge of launch and on-orbit operations, orbital mechanics, and attitude dynamics related to thermal analysis.
