Senior Climate Analytics Specialist (Machine Learning)

Location: Nationwide Remote Office (US99); preferred locations are Salt Lake City, Utah, New York City, New York, and Crystal City, Virginia.

Salary: $81,499.00–$138,549.00 annually for full-time employment.

What you will do

• Serve as a technical expert on multidisciplinary climate risk and resilience projects.
• Process large-scale geospatial, weather, and climate datasets using scientific programming and cloud-based distributed computing.
• Translate climate risk questions into analytical and modeling frameworks using statistical, machine learning, and physics-informed approaches.
• Design, train, and rigorously validate models in data-limited and non-stationary climate contexts.
• Support the development of climate risk tools and products for energy, transportation, and other infrastructure sectors.
• Communicate climate risk findings to clients and prepare presentations and reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in climate science, atmospheric science, Earth science, data science, meteorology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of relevant experience applying advanced analytics to climate, geospatial, or environmental data.
• 2+ years of experience using Python to process and analyze large multidimensional datasets such as NetCDF and Zarr.
• Experience with Pangeo ecosystem tools including Xarray and Dask.
• Experience designing scalable, cloud-based workflows with parallel processing, memory-aware computation, and reproducible pipelines, such as AWS or SageMaker.
• Experience applying machine learning and statistical models to climate science, risk analysis, or related topics using Python packages such as scikit-learn or PyTorch.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in climate science, atmospheric science, Earth science, data science, meteorology, or a related field.
• Experience with physical climate risk in energy systems, transportation networks, or other sectors.
• Experience with extreme events, tail risks, or rare-event modeling in environmental or geospatial contexts.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and communicating complex climate information to non-scientists.
