Tool Designer

Location: Onsite in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States

Salary: $20.00–$25.00 per hour

What you will do

• Create 3D models and 2D schematics for custom manufacturing products, including molds, fixtures, and tools, using CAD software.
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineers on tooling design, implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Select tool-construction materials based on durability, heat resistance, machinability, and cost.
• Generate Bills of Materials covering components, part numbers, and required materials.
• Maintain tool drawings and engineering documentation, including accuracy, usability, and configuration management.
• Analyze production and tooling issues, implement corrective solutions, and assist with training and cross-training.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of machine shop experience, at least 2 years as a Tool Designer, or equivalent technical education and experience.
• Mechanical aptitude, quality awareness, dexterity, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate across the organization.
• Ability to work onsite in Blacksburg, Virginia.
• Ability to travel internationally once per year; the position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
