International Payroll Lead (Workday)

Location: Remote - United States

Salary: $143,600–$201,000 USD per year, plus potential equity and commission depending on the position offered.

What you will do

• Manage, audit, and execute payroll delivery across 15+ international countries, including inputs, validations, approvals, funding, reconciliations, statutory filings, and post-payroll activities.
• Own payroll calendars, operating cadences, country-level dependencies, cutoffs, exceptions, and risk management to ensure accurate and timely payments.
• Oversee international equity compensation payroll for RSUs and stock options, including tax, statutory benefits, and reporting compliance.
• Lead payroll technology initiatives in Workday, including workflow automation, configuration optimization, custom reporting, and global payroll solution implementations.
• Manage relationships with local payroll providers and tax fulfillment partners while partnering with People, Benefits, Finance, Tax, Legal, Treasury, Equity, and Internal Audit.
• Establish global payroll policies, SOX controls, and standard operating procedures, and support M&A integrations, new country entries, and other strategic launches.

Requirements

• 5–7+ years of progressive payroll operations experience in a high-growth, publicly traded technology company with a global footprint.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in payroll, accounting, finance, human resources, or a related field.
• Advanced proficiency with Workday Payroll, including reporting, configuration, and integrations, as well as global payroll software platforms.
• Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, including VLOOKUPs, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, data analysis, reconciliations, and audit modeling.
• Strong knowledge of global equity taxation, statutory compliance, international labor laws, and multi-currency payroll distribution.
• Strong problem-solving, discretion with confidential data, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Experience responding to internal, external, statutory, and financial audits and preparing control evidence and supporting documentation.
• Experience applying automation or AI tools to payroll operations, analytics, controls, case management, or knowledge documentation.
• Experience supporting employees and business partners across regions, cultures, and time zones.
• Experience in a publicly traded, technology, or high-growth company and with international expansion or payroll transformation.
