Commercial Closing Officer (Commercial Lending)

Location: Baltimore, Maryland, United States of America; this position can sit in other locations within the M&T Bank footprint.

Salary: $32.89–$54.81 hourly (USD)

What you will do

• Own commercial loan closing execution from credit approval through funding and booking.
• Validate loan documentation, due diligence, collateral, covenants, settlement terms, system inputs, and credit-approved conditions.
• Complete commercial closing checklists and prepare transactions for Senior Closing Officer review and clearance to close.
• Coordinate with Relationship Managers, Underwriters, Credit, Treasury, Legal, approved bank counsel, external counsel, borrowers, and other stakeholders.
• Identify documentation gaps, compliance issues, exceptions, and risk exposures; escalate and resolve issues before funding.
• Manage multiple complex, multi-party closings and last-minute modifications while meeting deadlines and quality standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of commercial loan closing, documentation, operations, or administration experience; alternatively, seven years of combined higher education and relevant work experience including three related years.
• Demonstrated knowledge of commercial loan products, closing requirements, exceptions, escalation procedures, and lending structures.
• Experience with commercial loan origination platforms such as nCino.
• Ability to manage multiple closings simultaneously and maintain high data quality and integrity.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal and external cross-functional teams.
• Ability to identify and escalate risk, compliance, and documentation issues before funding.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of loan approvals, exception requirements, department policies, applicable products, systems, and workflows.
• Prior experience as a paralegal or in lending operations, underwriting, or customer service.
