Payroll Automation & Transformation Specialist (AI)

What you will do

• Own end-to-end Malaysia payroll processing, including statutory contributions, tax reporting, journal entries, reconciliations, and compliance with Malaysian labor regulations.
• Manage outsourced payroll vendors across APAC, reviewing payroll inputs, calculations, statutory deductions, filings, SLAs, KPIs, escalations, and regulatory changes.
• Lead payroll-related SOX, statutory, internal, and external audits, including control documentation, audit schedules, evidence gathering, and remediation tracking.
• Identify process risks and inefficiencies and design automation solutions using AI-assisted validation, anomaly detection, intelligent document processing, chatbots, predictive analytics, and RPA.
• Partner with HR, Finance, IT, and vendors on payroll workflows, HRIS integrations, system implementations, upgrades, and vendor transitions.
• Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, budgeting and forecasting data, and management insights using analytics and dashboards.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of regional payroll experience, preferably in a multi-country environment.
• Hands-on Malaysia payroll experience, including EPF, SOCSO, EIS, and PCB/MTD.
• Experience managing outsourced payroll vendors across multiple jurisdictions and strong knowledge of APAC payroll regulations.
• Experience with SOX requirements, internal controls, and statutory or internal/external audits.
• Experience with payroll process improvement, automation, or AI-enabled transformation; exposure to RPA, generative AI, or analytics platforms.
• Proficiency in Timesoft payroll system, preferably Workday HRIS, and advanced Excel skills, with strong analytical, process-mapping, organizational, and stakeholder-management abilities.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with UiPath, Power Automate, or Workday AI/ML capabilities.
• Experience translating AI and automation tools into practical payroll efficiency improvements.
• Experience supporting cross-functional HR, Finance, or payroll transformation projects.
