Senior Legal Counsel - Employment

Location: Hybrid, with 3 days per week in the office. Office base: Osterley, London. Candidates must have the appropriate right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not offered.

What you will do

• Provide clear, commercial and practical advice to HR, business leaders and internal lawyers on contentious and non-contentious employment law issues, primarily across the UK and Ireland with international scope.
• Support HR and the business with transformation, restructuring and M&A programmes, strategic projects and commercial priorities.
• Advise senior leadership on HR projects and risks, developing creative, risk-based solutions and driving positive outcomes.
• Build effective relationships with HR, Legal, hirify.global Group, NBCUniversal and wider business stakeholders while working independently and collaboratively.
• Coach and develop HR Legal and hirify.global Legal colleagues, including supervising paralegals handling employment tribunal litigation in-house.
• Retain, instruct and manage external counsel efficiently and cost-effectively.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in UK employment law within a highly regarded law firm or equivalent in-house environment.
• Experience managing large-scale restructuring and M&A projects, reputational management issues and trade union issues.
• Ability to effectively supervise employment tribunal claims.
• Ability to simplify complexity and provide creative, practical and risk-based solutions.
• Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to communicate advice clearly and manage a complex network of senior stakeholders.
• Ability to provide legal advice quickly and independently, escalate appropriately and drive matters forward.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport, establish trust and partner with the business at all levels.
• Optimistic, open-minded and willing to support the development of others.

Nice to have

• In-house experience.
• Exposure to telecommunications, media, technology and/or entertainment industries.
• Experience working with external and overseas counsel.
