Physicist / Scientist IV (E4) (Photonic Interconnect)

Location: Santa Clara, CA; travel required 10% of the time; relocation eligible.

Salary: $161,000–$221,000 per year, plus potential bonus and stock awards.

What you will do

• Design and lead scalable test platforms and custom tools for R&D and pilot-scale deployment in energy-efficient computing.
• Build and validate physical models, run simulations, and optimize performance from device to system levels.
• Collaborate with device and integration engineers on novel processes, manufacturing technologies, and custom-built systems.
• Troubleshoot complex physics-related application and system issues in laboratory and field environments.
• Translate R&D innovations into scalable, manufacturable solutions aligned with production requirements.
• Lead innovative physics projects, strategic vendor selection, customer and university engagements, and cross-functional risk management activities.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong expertise in high-speed photonic interconnect technologies, including key components and system-level integration approaches.
• Deep experience with CAD modeling tools and advanced simulation methodologies.
• Track record of innovation and translating concepts into product realization.
• Working knowledge and hands-on experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment and advanced processing techniques.
• Hands-on experience in cleanroom environments.
• Proven problem-solving skills and effective collaboration in R&D and/or production settings.
• Ability to communicate difficult concepts and negotiate with others to adopt different points of view.
