Senior Software Engineer (AI/TypeScript): Building GitLab Duo CLI and supporting developer tooling for AI-assisted terminal workflows with an accent on command-line UX, architecture, reliability, and performance. Focus on designing interactive TypeScript experiences, making architectural trade-offs, improving observability, and maintaining cross-platform consistency across IDE integrations.

What you will do
- Design, develop, and evolve GitLab Duo CLI features from problem definition through rollout and iteration.
- Build interactive terminal experiences in TypeScript, including command and flag design, output formatting, scripting-friendly behavior, and backward compatibility.
- Improve CLI reliability, observability, performance, and technical debt management using product and system metrics.
- Make architectural decisions and align technical direction with Product, Design, and engineering teams across Developer Clients and AI Clients.
- Review code, mentor engineers, and champion product quality, security, and developer experience.
- Contribute to JetBrains Kotlin plugins and VS Code TypeScript extensions when shared features or cross-platform consistency require it.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and interest in developer tooling and command-line interface design.
- Experience building or maintaining command-line tools or other developer-facing tooling.
- Experience owning technical problems end to end, making architectural trade-offs, and guiding engineers through reviews and mentorship.
- Clear written and spoken English communication skills.
- Comfort working in a fully remote, largely asynchronous environment.
- Ability to work remotely from Poland or the United Kingdom.
Nice to have
- Experience developing JetBrains plugins in Kotlin or VS Code extensions.
- Understanding of the Language Server Protocol, language servers, or editor integrations.
