TL;DR
Turbomachinery Engineer (Early Career, Exceptional Talent) (Gas Turbines/Turbofan Engines): Building and testing propulsion hardware for Superpower gas turbines and Symphony turbofan engines with an accent on turbomachinery physics, CFD, thermodynamic cycle analysis, and aerothermal design. Focus on owning propulsion-system components, troubleshooting engine-test data in real time, and solving complex flow, cooling, stability, and manufacturability challenges.

Location: 100% onsite at Boom's headquarters in Centennial, Colorado

Salary: $87,000–$117,000 per year

Company

Builds Superpower gas turbines for AI data centers and Symphony medium-bypass turbofan engines for supersonic flight.

What you will do

  • Own a defined propulsion-system component or problem, from 1D cycle performance and 3D CFD modeling to fuel nozzle design, secondary air systems, rotordynamics, and variable guide vane geometry.
  • Work on the test stand and in the shop with mechanical, materials, controls, design, and manufacturing engineers.
  • Analyze thermodynamic cycles, internal flow networks, and turbomachinery physics to establish operating limits.
  • Support engine testing in real time by evaluating raw data, troubleshooting anomalies, and driving hardware revisions.
  • Optimize gas-path components for extreme aerothermal loads and production manufacturability.

Requirements

  • Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent hands-on propulsion or thermal-fluids experience.
  • At least one internship, co-op, or equivalent experience analyzing, designing, or testing real-world propulsion, fluid, or thermal systems.
  • Hands-on experience with 1D/3D CFD, thermodynamics or cycle-analysis tools, and/or FEA tools.
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, compressible fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and combustion.
  • Track record of completing difficult projects inside and outside school.
  • Must be eligible to access export-controlled information and technology under U.S. ITAR and EAR regulations.

Culture & Benefits

  • Early-career engineers receive ownership of meaningful propulsion-system work and direct accountability for outcomes.
  • Work includes GPU-accelerated CFD, turbine blade flow-bench testing, engine test stands, and operational gas-turbine hardware.
  • Benefits may include long-term incentives or equity, flexible PTO, onsite meals, and gym access.
