Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer (IoT)

Salary: CAD 115,000–125,000 per year, plus performance bonus and equity

What you will do

• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for IoT and video streaming products.
• Own major firmware components and features from design through production.
• Develop and integrate device drivers, communication protocols, RTOS components, and platform firmware.
• Collaborate with hardware, cloud, mobile, QA, manufacturing, and ODM partners on system integration and delivery.
• Optimize firmware performance, memory usage, power consumption, and reliability.
• Evaluate new SoCs, image sensors, wireless modules, and other hardware components while contributing to design reviews, code reviews, and root-cause analysis.

Requirements

• 7+ years of embedded firmware development experience, preferably with IoT, networking, or video streaming products.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong Embedded C and C++ programming skills, with experience on RTOS and Embedded Linux platforms.
• Experience with real-time multimedia, including video/audio processing, H.264/H.265 compression, and streaming technologies.
• Experience with multithreaded embedded software, device drivers, debugging, hardware analysis tools, and resource optimization.
• Knowledge of TCP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, RTP, RTSP, SIP, WebRTC, Wi-Fi, BLE, LTE, IoT architectures, cloud-connected devices, and Git.

Nice to have

• Consumer IoT or smart home firmware development experience.
• Experience with Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread, or Matter.
• Knowledge of Linux memory management, file systems, and U-Boot.
• Scripting experience with Python, Perl, or Lua.
• Experience supporting products through manufacturing and production.
