TL;DR
Propulsion Engineering Internship - Spring 2027 (Aerospace Propulsion): Developing spacecraft propulsion fluid systems, test stands, and analysis workflows for orbital maneuvers and Earth reentry with an accent on thrusters, propellant tanks, plumbing, and fluid component testing. Focus on designing hotfire and component test facilities, developing automated data reduction software, and qualifying valves and ground fluids equipment.

Location: Full-time, on-site internship in Los Angeles, California; company headquarters and production facility in El Segundo, California.

Hourly rate: $33.00

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Own or contribute to hardware and software design for spacecraft or payload development.
  • Create and support test campaigns and build test stands.
  • Perform analysis supporting system development and testing.
  • Work across the design, manufacturing, integration, and testing lifecycle of spacecraft propulsion systems.
  • Potentially design hotfire test facility propellant systems, component test benches, or bus ground fluids equipment.
  • Potentially develop automated data reduction software and valve qualification test programs.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.
  • Completed relevant propulsion coursework, including at least one of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, compressible flow, or combustion.
  • Strong fundamentals in fluids engineering and prior hands-on experience building or testing fluid systems.
  • Familiarity with NX/Teamcenter, GD&T, MATLAB or Python, and engineering analysis packages.
  • Familiarity with the safe operation of combustion devices, rocket propellants, pressurized systems, and high-precision manufacturing environments.

Nice to have

  • Previous internship or co-op experience.
  • Experience on technical project teams such as rocket clubs or Formula SAE.
  • Completion of a propulsion or rocket propulsion survey course.
