Staff Engineer, Software Engineering (SRE Availability and Incident Management)

Location: Bethesda, MD, United States. hirify.global Flex allows working from anywhere in the US for up to four weeks per year.

Annual salary: $100,000–$230,000.

What you will do

• Lead technical strategy and execution across multiple engineering domains, including SRE availability and incident management.
• Design, build, improve, and scale software systems using microservices, REST APIs, cloud services, containers, and databases.
• Collaborate with product managers, customers, and engineering teams to solve complex technical problems and influence product roadmaps.
• Ensure the quality, usability, performance, reliability, and security of engineering solutions.
• Mentor engineers, share best practices, and strengthen technical capabilities across engineering and product communities.
• Analyze costs, forecast resource needs, measure operational outcomes, and support continuous learning.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software development experience focused on SRE and incident/change management.
• 8+ years of architecture and design experience, including scalable and reliable systems.
• Fluency in at least two modern programming languages such as Go, Java, C++, Python, or C#, with object-oriented design experience.
• Experience with continuous delivery, infrastructure as code, DevOps, cloud architecture, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, Docker, monitoring, and performance assessment.
• Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, microservices, extensible REST APIs, security protocols, Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth, and Azure networking.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in large-scale, mission-critical environments.
• Experience with automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Experience with open-source frameworks, PowerShell, ALM features, and EAP management.
• Publications in credible conferences or journals.
