Software Development Engineer, SRE (US Federal)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; may require onsite work at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. At least 50% of each quarter is spent in the office or in the field.

Annual base salary: $137,000–$205,400 USD for the primary location; $123,900–$222,000 USD for additional U.S. locations.

What you will do

• Run, manage, and scale containerized workloads on Kubernetes clusters in AWS GovCloud.
• Automate infrastructure, configuration, and deployment pipelines with Terraform, Terragrunt, Docker, AWS, and Argo CD.
• Design and maintain air-gapped deployment methods for secure and isolated environments.
• Build monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to improve platform observability and reliability.
• Troubleshoot distributed systems, platform, infrastructure, and network issues.
• Collaborate with development, security, and cross-functional teams; document architecture and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required for work on U.S. federal government contracts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance with CI Polygraph; an active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph is strongly preferred.
• For the mid-level track: 3+ years of experience with production cloud infrastructure, DevOps pipelines, or platform engineering; for the senior track: 5+ years.
• Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform or Terragrunt, CI/CD and GitOps tools such as Argo CD, Jenkins, or GitLab CI, and scripting or programming languages such as Go or Python.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, troubleshoot distributed systems, and mentor junior engineers.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Kubernetes, AWS GovCloud, and Docker.
• Experience with air-gapped systems, isolated cloud architectures, and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
• Knowledge of FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, Zero Trust architecture, or DoD 8570/8140 requirements.
• Relevant security certifications and a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
