Senior RF & Antenna Systems Engineer (SATCOM): Defining and evaluating phased-array RF architectures for satellite communication ground stations with an accent on antenna systems, beamforming, link budgets, calibration, and tracking. Focus on connecting RF impairments and propagation effects to EVM, BER, throughput, link availability, and measured end-to-end communication performance.

Location: On-site in Torrance, California, United States

Salary: $140,000–$226,000 per year, plus equity, discretionary performance bonuses, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Define phased-array antenna and RF-system architectures for satellite communication ground stations.
  • Translate mission, coverage, link-availability, waveform, throughput, and regulatory requirements into antenna, RF front-end, beamforming, calibration, pointing, and tracking specifications.
  • Develop SATCOM link budgets and evaluate array, RF-lineup, beamforming, propagation, and communications-performance tradeoffs.
  • Build Python, MATLAB, or similar models connecting array behavior, measured RF performance, propagation, and modem-level metrics.
  • Plan and execute conducted, chamber, near-field, far-field, over-the-air, and end-to-end communication-link testing.
  • Lead cross-functional investigations and support regulatory submissions, spectrum coordination, system acceptance, and operational deployment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with phased arrays, antenna systems, RF communication systems, or SATCOM terminals.
  • Strong foundation in antenna theory, array processing, electromagnetics, RF system design, and microwave propagation.
  • Experience with communication-link analysis, RF-lineup performance, digital communications, and metrics including EIRP, G/T, EVM, BER, throughput, and link margin.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools for array, RF-system, propagation, or link analysis.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations under ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Ku-, Ka-, or higher-frequency SATCOM phased-array terminals or ground stations.
  • Experience with analog, hybrid, or digital beamforming, massive MIMO, multi-beam systems, or electronically steered arrays.
  • Familiarity with SATCOM standards such as DVB-S2/S2X or CCSDS.
  • Experience with array calibration, beam acquisition, tracking, satellite handover, SDR-integrated RF systems, or full-wave electromagnetic tools such as HFSS or CST.
