DSP Engineer (Satellite Communications): Defining and implementing end-to-end modem algorithms for a next-generation radio platform and satellite ground network with an accent on waveform processing, synchronization, equalization, and FPGA/host compute partitioning. Focus on carrying communication algorithms from analysis and prototyping through real-time implementation, system integration, and performance characterization under realistic channel impairments.

Location: Torrance, California, United States. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility for required U.S. Department of State authorizations is required under ITAR regulations.

Salary: $104,000–$226,000 per year, plus equity and potential performance bonuses.

What you will do

  • Own modem algorithm definition and development from requirements through implementation and validation.
  • Define waveform processing chains including synchronization, pulse shaping, equalization, and related signal-processing functions.
  • Partition and implement modem functions across FPGA logic and embedded or host-based compute on an in-house SDR platform.
  • Collaborate with RF, FPGA, and systems engineers to integrate modem algorithms into the communications platform.
  • Develop communication-system tests and characterize modem performance under realistic channel impairments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 2+ years, in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience developing modems or waveform-processing chains for SDR, wireless communications, radar, or related RF systems.
  • Strong knowledge of digital communications theory, including CCSDS, BPSK, QPSK, OQPSK, DVB-S2, carrier synchronization, pulse shaping, equalization, and Doppler effects.
  • Ability to take waveform algorithms from analysis and prototyping through working implementation rather than simulation only.
  • Understanding of complete signal chains and interactions between modem design and RF or hardware constraints.
  • Experience testing communication systems and characterizing performance.

Nice to have

  • Bit-equivalence verification through FPGAs.
  • SDR frameworks such as GNU Radio.
  • Real-time signal processing.
  • Systems programming in C++ or Rust, with Rust especially valued.
  • Beamforming, radar, or electronic warfare experience.
