Backend Product Engineer

Location: New York, United States; hybrid

Salary: $170K–$300K per year plus equity

What you will do

• Own a product surface end to end, from problem definition and specification through launch and measurement.
• Partner with design, data science, and go-to-market teams to define scope, prioritize work, and make product decisions.
• Speak directly with customers, review support tickets, and observe product usage to guide backend product decisions.
• Design data models, APIs, and jobs that enable new product capabilities.
• Improve system speed, reliability, code quality, and engineering velocity as usage scales.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to a high-quality, understandable codebase.

Requirements

• 4+ years of hands-on engineering experience building products used by customers.
• Strong backend fundamentals, including API and schema design, SQL, preferably Postgres, and query optimization.
• Ownership mindset with the ability to define, scope, ship, and learn from production outcomes.
• Clear, empathetic communication and strong engineering craft.
• Experience working with large-scale data pipelines, event ingestion systems, or other high-performance production systems.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup in New York.

Nice to have

• Depth with Redis, Postgres, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
• Advanced optimization of serverless workloads on AWS.
• Experience building LLMs or agents as product surfaces.
• Experience with React, TypeScript, Python, Node.js, AWS, Terraform, CircleCI, Netlify, Playwright, CloudWatch, Datadog, or Mezmo.
