Salary: $230,000–$290,000 per year in CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $204,000–$264,000 per year in other U.S. states.

What you will do

• Set technical strategy for the Order Platform over a year-long planning horizon and connect it to business-critical projects.
• Design and evolve systems supporting orders, captures, refunds, settlement, and post-checkout APIs.
• Define domain boundaries, migrate existing merchant integrations, and enable future product launches.
• Own operational availability through monitoring, alerting, testing, playbooks, triage rotations, and on-call processes.
• Establish code review and design standards while communicating technical direction through writing and tech talks.
• Mentor engineers, provide feedback, and collaborate with product management, design, and analytics.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Strong experience with Python or Kotlin and highly available distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Expertise in API boundaries, reliability, consistency, idempotency, and failure handling, ideally in payments, commerce, ledger, or another financially sensitive domain.
• Experience creating technical and execution plans for major features, system components, or deprecations.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
