What you will do
- Own backend surfaces end to end, from API contracts and data models through migrations and production rollout.
- Extend real-time synchronization through event streams, change data capture, and caching.
- Measure and improve query performance using query plans, indexes, and connection pooling.
- Instrument services so production degradation is visible in dashboards and participate in incident response.
- Collaborate with product and frontend engineers across San Francisco and Hyderabad, as well as open-source contributors.
- Debug issues that cannot be reproduced on hardware and networks outside the company's access.
Requirements
- Production Python experience with a shipped project that can be discussed in detail.
- Django or a comparable framework, including models, migrations, and request handling.
- Strong SQL skills beyond ORM usage, including query analysis and index design.
- Production debugging experience and the ability to explain changes made after an incident.
- Clear written communication for public issue discussions and collaboration with distributed engineering teams.
Nice to have
- Contributions to or another open-source project used by others.
- Experience with event streams or message queues such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
- Understanding of containers, versioned migrations, and deployments to customer-managed infrastructure.
- Experience shipping software to regulated or isolated environments, including banking, defense, healthcare, or air-gapped systems.
- Experience building systems where AI agents act on real data with explicit state, permissions, and audit trails.
