Software Engineer (Go)

Location: New York City, hybrid

Estimated total compensation: $210,000–$250,000 plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop Astro Platform architecture and core platform components.
• Build and maintain systems supporting the Public API, authentication, billing, alerting, and Astro infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product management, frontend engineers, customers, and cross-functional teams to deliver customer-facing features.
• Improve platform usability, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and iterate on features used across the product and engineering organization.

Requirements

• Experience building performant, scalable, and reliable backend systems.
• Experience developing services with Go and orchestrating services on Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with SQL databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Advanced understanding of distributed systems concepts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative approach.
• Experience using AI coding assistants and LLMs such as Claude, Cursor, or Gemini for prototyping, testing, refactoring, and documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with Google Spanner.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
• Experience with Apache Airflow or related workflow orchestrators.
• Experience with billing, authentication, and other critical business functions.
