Senior Software Engineer, Risk (Ruby/Rails)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States. Hybrid work with office attendance approximately 2–3 days per week for employees based in San Francisco and the San Jose metro area.

Salary: $185,000–$205,000 per year in San Francisco, Seattle, and New York. Final compensation depends on experience, expertise, role level, and location.

What you will do

• Design, build, and test infrastructure for custom risk product experiences.
• Lead technically and organizationally complex projects from technical design through rollout.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Design, Data Science, and Operations.
• Scale Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React applications.
• Act as a risk platform domain expert, mentor engineers, and improve technical quality and documentation.
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to reliability, security, and performance incidents.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Experience designing, building, and testing production-quality code and architecture for complex projects.
• Experience owning projects end-to-end and coordinating with product, design, and data partners.
• Ability to set technical direction, communicate complexity, and make tradeoffs between competing priorities.
• Experience building maintainable, structured, well-documented, fault-tolerant software.
• Experience applying AI tools to development, testing, and documentation, including reviewing and correcting AI-generated work.
