Principal Software Engineer (C/C++/Rust)

Location: Los Angeles, California; full-time onsite presence five days a week in Hawthorne

Salary: $200,000–$400,000 per year, plus stock options

What you will do

• Provide architectural leadership for a complex, highly integrated software system.
• Lead challenging development and implementation efforts across edge computing, hardware control, automation, and telemetry.
• Direct system-level integration and validation from conception through production.
• Provide technical project management for projects with significant scope or complexity.
• Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, process engineering, and technical executive stakeholders.
• Improve system capabilities and performance while advancing manufacturing technology.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing complex software systems using C, C++, or Rust.
• Experience in robotics, IoT, autonomous vehicles, UAVs, or similar autonomy-focused environments.
• Experience with high-performance computing environments using FPGAs or GPUs.
• Ability to work onsite in Hawthorne five days per week, with very limited exceptions.
• Ability to work collaboratively across electrical, mechanical, process engineering, and software disciplines.

Nice to have

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with edge computing, high-speed data acquisition, and real-time closed-loop control systems.
• Experience with hardware acceleration for machine learning or artificial intelligence.
• Startup or leading-edge technology experience.
• First-principles reasoning and interest in applying software to the physical world.
