Lead Data Scientist (AI/ML)

Salary: $140,000–$187,000–$205,700 annually for the Washington, DC metropolitan area

What you will do

• Provide technical vision, strategy, and leadership for an advanced analytics program and its project roadmap.
• Define AI/ML architecture and lead feature engineering, supervised, unsupervised, and deep-learning development.
• Direct graph analytics, causal inference, explainable AI, and analytical validation activities.
• Build and maintain Python, SQL, ETL, and cloud or big-data workflows for structured and unstructured datasets.
• Develop, test, and evaluate predictive models and statistical analyses for mission-focused use cases.
• Mentor technical staff, document methods and results, present findings to Government leadership, and support operational transition planning.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship and an active TS/SCI security clearance with CI polygraph capability are required.
• Must be able to work on-site in Herndon, Virginia.
• 12+ years of relevant experience and a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong technical leadership experience, including project roadmap development and experience with AI/ML programs.
• Production-quality Python and SQL coding skills, plus experience with data manipulation, feature engineering, machine-learning libraries, and automation tools.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts and analytical results clearly in writing and verbally.

Nice to have

• Experience with agent-based modeling.
• Experience supporting operational environments or Government R&D projects.
• Working knowledge of R.
