Mechanical Engineer (AI Manufacturing): Developing advanced manufacturing hardware from concept through CAD, fabrication, testing, and deployment with an accent on mechanical systems, additive manufacturing, and integrated production equipment. Focus on architecting complex hardware, performing tolerance analysis, validating subsystems, and improving system reliability and manufacturability.

Location: Los Angeles, CA; full-time onsite presence five days a week is required at the Hawthorne facility.

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year, dependent on academic level and demonstrated experience.

What you will do

  • Own hardware projects from initial concept and CAD through production, fabrication, testing, and deployment.
  • Research, develop, design, and test complex mechanical components, subassemblies, equipment, and systems.
  • Perform system- and subsystem-level tolerance analysis.
  • Plan and execute tests to assess equipment and component feasibility, operation, and performance.
  • Build, integrate, and validate mechanical designs and newly developed systems.
  • Develop continuous improvement plans focused on performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering.
  • At least one year of professional experience with full life-cycle, hands-on mechanical design, including calculations, CAD, fabrication, and testing.
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and a first-principles approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience with collegiate engineering projects such as FSAE, Baja SAE, rocket clubs, or robotics clubs.
  • Experience designing complex mechanical systems for industrial manufacturing or capital equipment applications.
  • Experience with NX, machine-shop fabrication, motion control, kinematics, fluid or thermal systems, and electromechanical systems.
  • Interest in advancing metal 3D printing and strong verbal and written communication skills.
