Edge Compute and Data Center Architect (AI)

Location: Los Angeles, CA; full-time onsite presence in Hawthorne five days a week

What you will do

• Architect and scale edge compute and storage systems for real-time machine learning and petabyte-scale physics data processing.
• Design, deploy, and maintain on-premises and cloud infrastructure with high availability, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
• Optimize virtualization and containerization technologies across heterogeneous CPU, GPU, server, and storage environments.
• Design and manage networking infrastructure, including high-bandwidth connectivity and performance optimization across network layers.
• Implement security protocols, audits, and vulnerability assessments for data, systems, and infrastructure.
• Ensure network security operations comply with standards and regulations such as NIST and ITAR.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or network engineering.
• 5+ years of enterprise-level data center engineering experience.
• Experience with heterogeneous compute and data center infrastructure, including CPUs, GPUs, traditional servers, and storage.
• Strong knowledge of on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Ability to work onsite in Hawthorne five days per week, with very limited exceptions.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of overall industry experience.
• Experience with high-speed data and InfiniBand or similar high-bandwidth communication systems.
• Experience scaling infrastructure in a startup environment.
• Experience developing edge-compute capabilities for ground stations, IoT, or other hardware-centric operations.
• Leadership, team management, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of NIST 800-171 and ITAR security and compliance standards.
