Senior Database Engineer

Location: Remote, Canada

Salary: CAD 150,000–190,000 per year

What you will do

• Evaluate database architectures and implement improvements for performance, availability, reliability, and durability.
• Design and administer PostgreSQL databases and support database production incidents, triage, and remediation.
• Evaluate schemas, partitions, views, and queries to improve database performance.
• Manage database replication, backups, compute, networking, and storage to support resilience and business continuity.
• Make database platform decisions for AWS and GCP and build reusable database architectures for new installations.
• Automate infrastructure deployment with Terraform and GitOps across cloud-native Kubernetes platforms.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on database engineering experience, preferably with PostgreSQL.
• 5+ years of experience working in AWS or GCP cloud environments.
• 3+ years of high-level programming experience in Python or Go.
• Experience with Kubernetes operators, specifically Zalando and CNPG, and strong Kubernetes production experience.
• Experience with Kafka or other distributed event-streaming systems, ETL, CDC, database monitoring, and database architecture.
• Experience supporting production issues, compliance audits, and infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform.
