Senior Java Spark Developer (AI)

Location: Montreal, Canada

Base compensation: CAD 70,000–95,000 per year, with potential additional compensation depending on the position and applicable laws.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java applications, backend services, and distributed processing solutions.
• Build batch and real-time data pipelines with Apache Spark for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
• Optimize Spark jobs, SQL queries, database workloads, and JVM performance for scalability and reliability.
• Develop data transformation, enrichment, aggregation, validation, and reconciliation solutions for analytics and operational needs.
• Analyze requirements, resolve production issues, identify performance bottlenecks, and contribute to architecture and technical design decisions.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders; mentor junior developers and participate in Agile ceremonies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong Core Java expertise, including object-oriented design, collections, multithreading, concurrency, and JVM performance tuning.
• Hands-on Apache Spark experience, including Spark SQL, DataFrames, Datasets, distributed computing, and large-scale data processing.
• Strong SQL skills with experience optimizing complex queries and working with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
• Knowledge of data modeling, data pipeline design, Linux/Unix, Git, Maven or Gradle, and CI/CD pipelines.
