Principal Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; in-office expectation of at least 50% of the time, typically three days per week

Salary: $240,000–$300,000 starting base salary annually, plus equity and additional compensation components.

What you will do

• Architect and build backend financial services that enable receivers to save and spend funds in their home countries.
• Define APIs, data models, event-driven architectures, resiliency standards, and observability for systems serving tens of millions of users.
• Integrate receiver capabilities with global disbursement, foreign exchange, liquidity, and compliance infrastructure.
• Embed AML, KYC, security, encryption, audit trails, threat modeling, and vulnerability remediation into service design.
• Scale systems for millions of daily active receivers while establishing SLOs, error budgets, runbooks, and on-call practices.
• Set technical direction, lead design reviews, author RFCs and ADRs, and mentor senior and staff engineers across teams.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including designing and operating distributed systems at scale.
• Experience leading zero-to-one technical initiatives, including greenfield services, platform bootstrapping, or new-market launches.
• Deep backend expertise in service-oriented architecture, event-driven architecture, RESTful and asynchronous APIs, and relational or distributed databases.
• Strong security and compliance experience in regulated industries such as fintech, banking, payments, or healthcare.
• Ability to influence engineering, product, legal, and operations stakeholders and communicate with technical and executive audiences.
• Ability to work in the Seattle office at least 50% of the time; hirify.global is an E-Verify employer.

Nice to have

• Experience building financial products for emerging markets in LATAM, Sub-Saharan Africa, South or Southeast Asia.
• Payments infrastructure experience with card rails, ACH, real-time payment networks, mobile money, or digital wallets.
• Familiarity with AML/KYC, PCI-DSS, or SOC 2 frameworks.
• Experience integrating APIs with financial institutions, fintechs, or licensed payment processors.
• Open-source or engineering community contributions through publications, talks, or tooling.
