Senior Database Administrator (PostgreSQL)

Location: Remote within the United States, limited to candidates residing in AR, AZ, CO, CT, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, NH, OK, OR, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, or WI.

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable database architecture for a growing SaaS platform.
• Lead database performance tuning, query optimization, troubleshooting, and long-term reliability improvements.
• Investigate production database availability and performance incidents, identify root causes, and mitigate impact.
• Collaborate with software development teams on query optimization and schema design.
• Work with DevOps teams to automate database administration and maintenance using scripting and infrastructure tools.
• Maintain observability, security controls, access management, backup procedures, and capacity monitoring while mentoring engineering teams on performant queries.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience managing databases at scale.
• Experience in SaaS environments with high-availability requirements.
• Strong experience with OLTP databases, especially PostgreSQL in high-volume environments.
• Experience with replication, partitioning, sharding, clustering, backup, and recovery.
• Proficiency in SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and schema design.
• Experience with Bash, Python, or similar scripting and automation tools.

Nice to have

• Experience with GCP, Cloud SQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, or GCP SQL Query Insights.
• PostgreSQL or related technology certifications.
• Experience troubleshooting PostgreSQL WAL and VACUUM behavior.
• Experience with OLAP databases such as ClickHouse.
