Senior Software Engineer I, Care Innovation, Agentic Care (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid); office attendance required 2–3 days per week at 44 Montgomery Street. Candidates must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or able to relocate independently within 90 days. Occasional travel for team on-sites is required.

Salary: $183,000–$205,550 annual base salary, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Integrate emerging AI technologies into member-facing care experiences.
• Own the technical design and delivery of full-stack agentic AI systems.
• Build and maintain scalable full-stack services and web applications using Ruby on Rails and Python.
• Lead technical design reviews and multi-person, multi-sprint engineering projects, coordinating dependencies and stakeholder alignment.
• Use AI tools such as Claude and Copilot for design, debugging, delivery, documentation, and code reviews while evaluating outputs for quality and security.
• Drive security, performance, testing, monitoring, incident investigation, engineering best practices, and mentorship for earlier-career engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 3+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails or Python.
• Strong experience building backend applications, developing AI agents, and applying prompt engineering.
• Experience integrating AI/ML features or LLM-powered services in production.
• Experience leading technical designs and multi-person engineering projects, mentoring engineers, and making hands-on technical contributions.
• Ability to write well-designed tests and deliver clean, maintainable, secure, scalable code in an agile environment.
