Lead Applied AI Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid office position in designated Tech Market locations: New York City, Louisville, KY, or Dallas, TX

Salary: $170,800–$234,800 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan

What you will do

• Architect and deliver production-grade AI systems with RAG pipelines, multi-agent orchestration, tool use, memory, and multi-model integrations.
• Define organization-wide standards for prompt engineering, evaluation, model selection, caching, observability, and performance optimization.
• Deploy reliable AI services with logging, tracing, dashboards, alerting, graceful degradation, circuit breakers, and incident response.
• Design data ingestion, preprocessing, vector search, hybrid retrieval, and data quality monitoring architectures.
• Drive quantitative evaluation and continuous improvement through A/B testing, telemetry analysis, user feedback, and model optimization.
• Partner with platform teams on GPU capacity, networking, storage, model serving, and enterprise integrations while mentoring engineers and promoting responsible AI practices.

Requirements

• More than 7 years of software engineering experience focused on applied AI/ML, distributed systems, and full-stack architectures.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Deep experience designing and deploying generative AI systems, including multi-hop RAG, agent frameworks, conversational AI, and multi-model systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with React, FastAPI, vector databases, embedding models, LLM APIs, and orchestration frameworks.
• Experience establishing prompt testing, version control, evaluation frameworks, observability, cost tracking, and benchmarking practices.
• Knowledge of responsible AI, fairness, transparency, model risk management, validation, and regulated-environment deployment requirements, including HIPAA and FDA guidance.

• Experience providing technical direction across organizational boundaries and mentoring engineering talent.
• Experience collaborating with product, data science, design, security, compliance, and business stakeholders.
