Life Sciences Counsel

Location: New York City, NY; required to work from the New York offices at least 3 days per week

Annual salary: $335,000–$385,000 USD

What you will do

• Advise life sciences research teams on global research, development, and commercial matters.
• Drive a high volume of transactions with life sciences and biopharma counterparties, including research, collaboration, licensing, and commercialization agreements.
• Identify, analyze, and manage regulatory risks in coordination with the broader Legal department.
• Design scalable legal guidance and processes for growing life sciences initiatives.
• Anticipate legal developments affecting AI technologies in life sciences and biopharma and advise leadership.

Requirements

• JD and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar; California or New York admission preferred.
• Strong understanding of life sciences, drug development, research organizations, and pharmaceutical and biotech counterparties.
• Working knowledge of GxP, clinical and health data regulations, human-subjects research, and FDA processes.
• Deep experience negotiating and drafting complex IP allocation provisions in multi-party research arrangements, including invention and improvement ownership.
• Ability to translate legal risk into practical guidance for scientists, researchers, and business partners.
• Experience managing outside counsel across FDA/regulatory, IP, privacy, and export control matters.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of relevant legal experience, including substantial life sciences transactional work.
• Experience with AI/ML companies or products used in regulated scientific and clinical settings, especially drug discovery.
• Familiarity with biosecurity, dual-use research, or export control considerations.
• Scientific or technical training and experience using AI to optimize legal work.
