TL;DR
OSINT Analyst - Vessel Identification (Maritime): Resolving ambiguous vessel detections and reconstructing vessel identities, ownership, and behaviour with an accent on maritime OSINT, satellite imagery, AIS analysis, and evidence provenance. Focus on investigating dark vessels, spoofing, identity manipulation, pattern-of-life reconstruction, and feeding labelled ground truth into model-improvement workflows.
Location: Remote from the United Kingdom, Dubai, the United States, or Greece
Company
develops data and intelligence solutions for maritime and logistics markets, supporting analysts, compliance teams, and government users.
What you will do
- Resolve vessel identifications that automated detection cannot confidently determine, including dark, spoofed, duplicated, or low-confidence contacts.
- Attach verified vessel identities, including name, IMO, owner, operator, and flag, using sourced evidence and explicit confidence levels.
- Investigate AIS gaps, GNSS and position spoofing, borrowed or duplicated MMSI, name and flag changes, and vessel substitution.
- Interpret satellite and optical imagery and research vessel registries, ship-photo databases, ownership records, port-state records, classification sources, insurance sources, and open reporting.
- Reconstruct vessel pattern-of-life and ownership histories while maintaining clear provenance and disciplined reporting.
- Provide labelled ground truth and edge cases to the data science team and support improvements to detection automation.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in intelligence, investigations, maritime analysis, or a related OSINT research discipline.
- Working knowledge of vessel types, particulars, AIS, registries, flag and ownership structures, and shipping operations.
- Practical OSINT tradecraft, including source discovery, source evaluation, independent cross-referencing, and uncertainty management.
- Ability to interpret satellite, optical, and ideally SAR imagery.
- Meticulous evidence-led documentation and clear written assessments using appropriate confidence and caveat language.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in international relations, security or intelligence studies, maritime studies, geography, data, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of sanctions, trade compliance, and evasion typologies, including shadow-fleet behaviour and ship-to-ship transfers.
- Experience contributing labelled data or ground truth to machine-learning workflows or working with data science teams.
- Experience with GIS, geospatial tools, and large datasets.
- Additional languages relevant to major shipping and registry jurisdictions.
Culture & Benefits
- Remote full-time position within the listed hiring locations.
- Evidence-led, collaborative, and continuous-improvement-oriented working environment.
- Focus on decisive action, practical problem-solving, and supporting colleagues and clients.
- Commitment to a fair, inclusive, and diverse workplace.
