Backend Engineer - Index Data Processing (Python/AWS)

What you will do

• Define cloud-native backend systems and project requirements with product managers, researchers, and engineers.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services with a focus on cloud architecture.
• Write clean, well-tested, production-ready Python code, with opportunities to use Go or Rust.
• Deploy and operate production systems on AWS, focusing on reliability, security, and performance.
• Use Infrastructure as Code to provision and manage cloud resources.

Requirements

• Strong Python experience.
• Experience designing and hosting cloud-native systems.
• Experience with containerised backend engineering.
• Experience debugging through observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Loki.
• Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to learn independently and work on open-ended problems.

Nice to have

• Experience or interest in Go and/or Rust.
• Experience with graph databases or knowledge graphs, such as Neptune, Neo4j, or graph modelling on Postgres.
