Backend Engineer (Go/Ruby)

Location: Hybrid in Kaunas or Vilnius, Lithuania; two days in the office are recommended but not enforced. Up to 90 days per year may be spent on workation, including up to 21 days working outside the EU.

Salary: €3,558–€4,808 gross per month

What you will do

• Design and ship features that help members resolve support issues without contacting an agent.
• Contribute to LLM-powered automation, including retrieval over Help Center content, tool-calling into internal services, and evaluation pipelines.
• Build and operate high-volume backend systems where latency and reliability affect support flows.
• Extract domain functionality from the monolith into independently deployable services.
• Develop with Go and Ruby on Rails using Vitess, Kafka, Vespa, and Temporal.
• Instrument and monitor production code with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Datadog, and Kibana.

Requirements

• A few years of experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Experience with a high-level programming language and the ability to learn new languages; Go or Ruby experience is helpful.
• Experience working on systems where latency and reliability are important, including explaining technical trade-offs.
• Interest in the platform requirements of LLM-powered products, including evaluation, guardrails, cost, and failure modes; an ML background is not required.
• Clear written and spoken English.
• Ability to collaborate through knowledge sharing, pairing, design discussions, and code reviews.
