Senior Data Scientist, Gen AI Foundation (AI)

Location: South San Francisco, California, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days per week on campus. Relocation benefits are not available.

Salary: $177,310–$329,290 annually, plus a potential discretionary annual bonus.

What you will do

• Design and build extensible multi-agent infrastructure and foundational systems for agentic components.
• Establish governance frameworks for agents and data sources, including security, observability, and compliance standards.
• Transform traditional machine learning models and API services into agentic, MCP-compliant tools.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging Generative AI infrastructure, security, and multimodal technologies.
• Partner with business units and global Roche stakeholders to integrate agentic solutions into digital strategies.
• Mentor peers and stakeholders while influencing technical decisions on scalable and reliable AI systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in a relevant field.
• Expertise in RAG architectures, document chunking, vector and graph databases, SQL, and AI-generated SQL.
• Hands-on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, AWS Agentcore, MCP, and A2A protocols.
• Experience with multimodal architectures and integrating agentic systems.
• Strong knowledge of observability and performance engineering for agentic systems, including cost, reliability, and latency trade-offs.
• Ability to work on campus in South San Francisco three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with multimodal Generative AI tools, especially voice-based interfaces.
• Experience with common security protocols.
• Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industries.
