TL;DR
Manager – Energy Markets & Utility Planning (Power Markets/Utility Planning): Leading advisory projects for U.S. utilities using long-term planning tools and production cost models, with an accent on resource strategy, transmission, market exposure, and utility investment decisions. Focus on translating complex market analyses into practical recommendations, supporting regulatory strategy, developing client relationships, and leading project teams.

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States (hybrid), or U.S. remote. Travel is expected for client meetings and select industry events.

Salary: $108,476–$184,409 annually for full-time employment.

What you will do

  • Lead client-facing projects connecting long-term planning and market analysis to utility resource strategy, procurement, market exposure, and investment decisions.
  • Apply and interpret capacity expansion, production cost, and related market models; shape scenarios and assumptions.
  • Translate complex analytical results into practical recommendations for planning, regulatory, and business audiences.
  • Build client relationships, identify opportunities, and contribute to proposals and scopes of work.
  • Develop external-facing content and participate in conferences, workshops, webinars, and industry discussions.
  • Lead project teams, coordinate workstreams, mentor junior staff, and ensure high-quality deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in energy systems, engineering, economics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in power markets, utility planning, or energy consulting.
  • Required experience applying long-term planning tools and production cost models to power system planning questions.
  • Experience leading work for utilities or other power-sector clients on planning, market, or regulatory issues.
  • Ability to engage technical and management-level audiences, coordinate cross-functional teams, and support junior staff development.
  • Must be based in the United States for the remote arrangement; the Reston option is hybrid.

Nice to have

  • Graduate degree or experience with integrated system planning and utility resource decision-making.
  • Experience supporting regulatory proceedings, filings, testimony development, discovery, or expert analysis.
  • Experience with economic transmission planning, load forecasting, scenario planning, or probabilistic modeling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for turning complex analyses into clear client narratives.
