Lead Software Engineer (C#/.NET/WPF)

Location: Nottingham, United Kingdom; hybrid arrangement with at least 3 days per week on-site

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain desktop and cloud-connected applications using C#, .NET, and WPF.
• Build rich user interfaces with XAML, data binding, control templating, dependency properties, and modern UI patterns.
• Design end-to-end engineering workflows covering integration points, data flow, reliability, and failure modes across systems.
• Lead complex features through requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, release, and post-release support.
• Improve application performance, responsiveness, memory utilization, scalability, and long-term extensibility.
• Drive technical excellence through code reviews, mentoring, design discussions, architecture decisions, and collaboration with product, UX, QA, and domain teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Typically 4–7 years of relevant software development experience with evidence of technical growth and delivery.
• Deep knowledge of WPF, including XAML, data binding, dependency properties, control templating, styles, and MVVM.
• Strong C# knowledge, including async/await, task-based design, LINQ, generics, delegates, events, collections, and modern language features.
• Experience with performance optimization, memory management, debugging, troubleshooting, and delivering complex features to production.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar technologies.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI-enabled software with REST APIs, Python automation, Model Context Protocol, agent frameworks, or structured tools for AI assistants.
• Background in engineering, simulation, CAD, CAE, EDA, scientific, or other technical software.
• Knowledge of mathematical concepts used in scientific and engineering applications.
• Experience with cloud-connected desktop applications, automated testing, CI/CD, DevOps, and large-scale modernization.
