Sr Backend Engineer (Identity & Access Management)

Location: Remote - US

Salary: $163,000-$224,070, $172,600-$237,270, or $191,800-$263,670 annually, depending on US geographic pay zone.

What you will do

• Own authentication systems covering SAML and OAuth2 single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, login and session flows, MFA, and API key and token authentication.
• Build enterprise identity capabilities, including additional identity-provider integrations, multiple IdPs per account, and default MFA enforcement.
• Improve operational reliability through SLOs, monitoring, actionable alerting, runbooks, and sustainable on-call practices.
• Partner with Product Security on threat modeling, audit logging, and SOC 2 and FedRAMP compliance requirements.
• Set technical direction for identity systems and mentor engineers through design reviews.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with complex backend applications.
• Experience building or operating production authentication and identity systems.
• Experience safely changing systems where correctness and availability are critical, including backward-compatible changes, staged rollouts, and safe cutovers.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Go, Rust, or Python.
• Familiarity with AWS or equivalent cloud infrastructure and strong production ownership, including on-call.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of SAML, OIDC/OAuth2, or SCIM and experience integrating Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, OneLogin, or Ping.
• Experience with MFA/WebAuthn, RBAC, authorization policy engines, or audit logging at multi-tenant scale.
• Experience engineering under SOC 2 or FedRAMP compliance regimes.
